Luke Christopher Monaghan - Chiropractor

Who am I?

Luke Christopher Monaghan (DC) MChiro LRCC

I was born and raised in Southport, I completed a masters in chiropractic at the Welsh Institute of Chiropractic, since then I have practiced in both the Wirral and Blackpool where I gained a plethora of experience and have taken a keen interest in pain science. Growing up I played rugby union for Southport RUFC and represented Ireland at U19 level in rugby league.

What makes me different?

My practice is based around the latest research and evidence base to provide the most up to date musculoskeletal health care. This consists of providing treatment through manual therapy including mobilisation, manipulation, soft tissue therapy; exercise based rehabilitation, and helping you understand your pain through providing education and advice.

What can I help with?

I can help with a wide range of conditions, including but not limited to:

Your First Session

On your first visit, a thorough case history of your symptoms, general health and concerns will be taken. Following this, once consented to, an examination will occur which may include assessing your movement, through palpation of joints, the spine and muscles. Assessment of your muscular strength, reflexes, blood pressure and appropriate orthopaedic and neurological tests.

Following this you will receive an oral report of findings, to explain and discuss your diagnosis. If further investigations are required you may be referred to your GP. Following this treatment options will be discussed to help you achieve your goals, these may include spinal manipulation, joint mobilisation, soft tissue therapy and exercise.

Usually you will receive treatment on your first visit, this will be tailored to your individual needs and goals.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is chiropractic care?

Chiropractic care is a healthcare profession focused on diagnosing, treating, and preventing mechanical disorders of the musculoskeletal system, particularly the spine. Chiropractors use hands-on spinal manipulation and other alternative treatments to align the body's musculoskeletal structure. This alignment helps the body heal itself without the need for surgery or medication. Chiropractic care is often sought for pain relief, improved mobility, and overall wellness.

What conditions can chiropractic treat?

Chiropractic care is commonly used to treat a variety of conditions, including:

  • General, acute and chronic back pain
  • Sciatica
  • Lumbago
  • Mechanical neck pain
  • Headaches arising from the neck (cervicogenic)
  • Migraine prevention
  • Rotator cuff injuries
  • Shoulder complaints
  • Minor sports injuries
  • Joint pains
  • General aches and pain
  • Tension and inability to relax
  • Cramp

While chiropractic is often associated with back and neck pain, it can also help with other musculoskeletal issues and promote general well-being.

Is chiropractic treatment safe?

Yes, chiropractic treatment is generally considered safe when performed by a trained and licensed professional such as myself. Chiropractors in the UK are regulated by the General Chiropractic Council (GCC), ensuring they meet strict standards of education and practice. As with any medical treatment, there are potential risks, but serious complications are rare. It's important to discuss any concerns or pre-existing health conditions with your chiropractor before starting treatment to ensure it's appropriate for you.

How long does a session take?

A first appointment lasts for approximately one hour. This will include taking a detailed case history, assessment, and usually, if appropriate, treatment.

Follow-up treatments last for approximately 30 minutes.

How many chiropractic sessions will I need?

The number of required sessions varies on the individual. During your initial consultation, you will be assessed to create a personalised treatment plan, which may include a recommended number of sessions. Progress will be monitored and adjustments to the plan made as needed.

Accessibility?

The clinic is located on the first floor of the building, accessible by a flight of stairs.

Is there Parking?

Parking is not available on site. It can be found on nearby side streets and car parks nearby.
